Experience the best of Peru’s Inca heritage in two packed days — from the breathtaking Sacred Valley to the legendary Machu Picchu. This tour combines a full day exploring the valley’s most impressive archaeological sites with a comprehensive guided tour of the Lost City, all connected by a scenic train journey through the Andes.

Why Choose This Tour

This 2-day itinerary is the perfect balance of cultural immersion and iconic sightseeing. Rather than rushing to Machu Picchu and back in a single day, you’ll spend Day 1 exploring the Sacred Valley’s remarkable sites — Moray’s circular terraces, the ancient Maras salt mines, the imposing Ollantaytambo fortress, and Chinchero’s living textile traditions. An overnight in Aguas Calientes means you arrive at Machu Picchu refreshed and ready for an unforgettable Day 2.

What to Expect

Travel in comfort by private vehicle and train as your bilingual guide brings each site to life with expert knowledge and personal stories. From the ingenious Inca agricultural experiments at Moray to the timeless salt harvesting at Maras, the dramatic fortress at Ollantaytambo, and the colorful weaving demonstrations at Chinchero — every stop reveals a different facet of Inca civilization.

Tour Highlights

  • Moray circular terraces — Inca agricultural laboratory
  • Maras salt mines — 3,000+ salt pools in continuous use since Inca times
  • Ollantaytambo — Inca fortress and living Inca town
  • Chinchero — Traditional weaving and natural dye demonstrations
  • Scenic train journey through the Sacred Valley
  • Comprehensive private guided tour of Machu Picchu

Tour Highlights

Acclimatization

Cusco sits at 3,400m (11,150ft) above sea level. We strongly recommend arriving at least 1-2 days before your tour to adjust to the altitude. The Sacred Valley (2,800m) and Machu Picchu (2,430m) are both lower than Cusco, so you will likely feel progressively better as your tour continues. Drink plenty of water, avoid heavy meals and alcohol on arrival, and try coca tea — a traditional Andean remedy available throughout the region.

What to Expect

These are guided cultural tours traveling by private vehicle and train — no strenuous trekking required. You will walk moderate distances at archaeological sites (2-4 hours of walking on uneven stone paths and stairs at Machu Picchu, shorter walks at Sacred Valley sites). Comfortable walking shoes with good grip are essential. Each day involves some driving between sites with scenic stops along the way.

Health & Comfort

Apply high-SPF sunscreen frequently — UV radiation at altitude is intense even on cloudy days. Bring personal medications and consider altitude sickness remedies if sensitive. A light rain jacket is recommended year-round as mountain weather changes quickly. Stay hydrated with at least 1-2 liters of water daily. Hotels on multi-night tours have hot water and modern facilities.

Booking Tips

Book at least 2-3 months in advance, especially during peak season (June-September). Machu Picchu has daily visitor limits and popular circuits sell out quickly. Sacred Valley sites have more flexible scheduling. We coordinate all logistics, entry times, hotels, and trains upon booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time will I be picked up each day?
We contact you before your tour to confirm exact pickup times. Day 1 typically starts between 7:00-8:00 AM. On Machu Picchu day, pickup is earlier (around 4:00-6:00 AM) to maximize your time at the citadel.
Which Machu Picchu circuit will I visit?
We coordinate the best available circuit upon booking. Circuit 2 (the classic viewpoint route) is our top recommendation. Book 2-3 months ahead for the best circuit availability during peak season.
What hotels will I stay in?
We book comfortable 3-star hotels with private rooms, hot water, Wi-Fi, and breakfast. In Aguas Calientes, we use centrally-located properties. Hotel upgrades to 4-star or boutique options are available upon request.
Is the tour private or group?
All our tours are completely private. You'll have your own dedicated bilingual guide and private vehicle exclusively for your group. This means personalized pacing and flexibility throughout.
Do I need to be physically fit?
These are cultural touring days, not trekking. You will walk 2-4 hours on uneven stone paths at Machu Picchu and shorter distances at other sites. A moderate fitness level is helpful. We adjust the pace to your comfort.
What is the weather like?
Dry season (May-October) has sunny days and cool nights. Wet season (November-April) brings afternoon showers but fewer crowds and lush scenery. Rain is possible year-round, so always pack a rain jacket. Temperatures range 5-25°C depending on altitude and time of day.
Can I customize the itinerary?
Yes! While we have a recommended itinerary optimized for the best experience, we can adjust sites, timing, and activities to your preferences. Contact us to discuss customization options.
What meals are included?
Breakfast at hotels is included on overnight stays. Lunch and dinner are generally not included so you can choose from the wide range of restaurants your guide recommends. We can add meal packages upon request.
What if I get altitude sickness?
Cusco (3,400m) is where altitude is most felt. We recommend arriving 1-2 days early to acclimatize. The Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu are lower, so most people feel better as the tour progresses. Coca tea, hydration, and rest help. Our guides carry first aid supplies.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend 2-3 months ahead, especially for peak season (June-September). Machu Picchu has daily limits and popular circuits sell out fast. Earlier booking also ensures better hotel availability.
What Sacred Valley sites will I visit?
The tour includes Moray (Inca agricultural terraces), Maras salt mines (Salineras), Ollantaytambo fortress, and Chinchero village with its textile weaving tradition. These are the four most impressive and culturally significant sites in the Sacred Valley.
Is there a Pachamanca lunch option?
Yes! We offer an optional traditional Pachamanca lunch ($50) — an ancient Andean cooking method where meats, potatoes, and vegetables are slow-cooked underground with hot stones. It's a unique culinary and cultural experience.
