The Inca Trail & Salkantay Trek is an epic 7-day, 6-night adventure that combines two of Peru’s most legendary routes into one unforgettable journey. Trek beneath the towering Salkantay glacier, cross a dramatic 4,630m mountain pass, descend through cloud forests into the jungle, then walk the ancient Inca Trail through the Sun Gate to Machu Picchu.
This is the ultimate Peru trekking experience. While the classic Inca Trail follows one route to Machu Picchu, this combo trek takes you through an extraordinary range of landscapes — from snow-capped alpine peaks to tropical cloud forests — before joining the Inca Trail for the iconic Sun Gate entrance to Machu Picchu. You get the best of both worlds: the raw natural beauty of the Salkantay route combined with the historical significance of the Inca Trail.
With 7 days on the trail, you have time to fully absorb the diverse ecosystems, acclimatize naturally to the altitude, and enjoy a more relaxed pace than shorter treks. The journey includes two full days at Machu Picchu and comfortable hotel stays in Aguas Calientes, making it a well-rounded adventure.
The first three days follow the Salkantay route through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in the Andes. You camp at the base of the mighty Salkantay glacier (6,271m), cross the challenging Salkantay Pass at 4,630m, and descend through increasingly lush landscapes into the subtropical cloud forest zone — home to coffee plantations, orchids, and exotic birdlife.
Day 4 brings you to the newly rediscovered Inca ruins of Llactapata, offering your first panoramic view of Machu Picchu from across the valley, before continuing to Aguas Calientes. Day 5 is the highlight — you join the Inca Trail at KM 104, hiking through cloud forest to the magnificent ruins of Wiñay Wayna and entering Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate (Intipunku). Days 6 and 7 are dedicated to exploring Machu Picchu at your leisure and the scenic train journey home.

As a local tour operator, we provide you with a duffel bag during your briefing and include the services of an additional porter to carry up to 7 kg (15 lbs) of your gear. This allowance covers your sleeping bag, mattress, and any extra clothing you may need. Peruvian regulations ensure that no duffel bag exceeds 7 kg to safeguard the health of our porters and any horses used during the trek. All bags will be weighed prior to acceptance. If your gear exceeds this limit, you will need to carry the additional weight in your day pack. From the 7 kg allowance, allocate 2 kg for your sleeping bag and 1 kg for your sleeping pad, leaving you with approximately 4 kg for your personal belongings.
We highly recommend a small backpack 30 to 40L for hiking in the day. A big backpack will not be allowed into Machu Picchu. The remainder of your belongings will be in your duffel bag at camp.
