When you book with a licensed operator like Wonders of Peru Expeditions, you get:
- Legal protection. Licensed operators are regulated by Peruvian law, which means your rights as a consumer are protected.
- Legitimate Inca Trail access. Only licensed operators can purchase official Inca Trail permits from the Ministry of Culture. Unlicensed operators use third parties, adding cost and risk.
- Insurance coverage. We carry all required liability insurance for our trekking operations and transport vehicles.
- Trained staff. Our porters, chefs, and guides are properly employed, fairly compensated, and covered by Peruvian labor laws.
- Accountability. If something goes wrong, you have recourse through official channels — DIRCETUR, SUNAT, and the Peruvian consumer protection agency (INDECOPI).
Beware of unlicensed operators. Some companies advertising Inca Trail tours online are not actually licensed to operate them. They subcontract to licensed operators at a markup — meaning you pay more and have no direct relationship with the people running your trek. Always verify that your operator is DIRCETUR-registered.
