Trek to Humantay Lake — Cusco’s Most Beautiful Glacial Lake

The Salkantay 2-Day/1-Night Humantay Lake trek is the perfect short adventure for travelers who want to experience the raw beauty of the Peruvian Andes without committing to a longer multi-day trek. Lake Humantay is a stunning turquoise glacial lake sitting at 4,200 meters, fed by the melting glaciers of Mount Humantay and framed by the towering snow-capped Salkantay peak.

This private overnight trek takes you deep into the Salkantay mountain range, far from the crowds of the popular day-trip version. By camping overnight at Soraypampa, you experience the magic of sunset and sunrise in the high Andes — a privilege reserved for trekkers who stay the night.

Why Choose the 2-Day Version?

While Humantay Lake is available as a popular day trip from Cusco, the 2-day overnight version offers a significantly richer experience. You avoid the rush of day-trippers, arrive at the lake when it is most peaceful, enjoy gourmet meals prepared by our professional chef, and sleep under star-filled Andean skies at the foot of Salkantay mountain. The overnight stay also helps with altitude acclimatization, making the hike much more comfortable.

What Makes This Trek Special

Your private guide leads you through traditional Andean communities and diverse ecosystems as you ascend from agricultural valleys to glacial highland. The turquoise color of Humantay Lake changes throughout the day depending on sunlight and weather, creating an ever-changing natural spectacle. Wildlife sightings may include Andean condors, viscachas, and herds of llamas and alpacas grazing in the valleys.
