The Inca Trail Vistadome Train trek is a 4-day, 3-night adventure through the heart of the Peruvian Andes, ending at the iconic Sun Gate with your first view of Machu Picchu — and capped with a premium return journey aboard the PeruRail Vistadome panoramic train. This is the classic Inca Trail experience enhanced with the most scenic train ride in Peru.
The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of South America’s premier trekking routes. Over four days, you’ll follow ancient pathways once walked by Inca nobility, passing through diverse ecosystems from high-altitude puna grasslands to lush cloud forests teeming with orchids and hummingbirds. You’ll explore remarkable archaeological sites accessible only on foot — including Patallacta, Runkurakay, Sayaqmarka, Phuyupatamarka, and the stunning terraces of Wiñay Wayna.
What sets this tour apart is your return to Cusco aboard the Vistadome panoramic train. Instead of a standard train transfer, you’ll ride in carriages with oversized windows and a glass-roof ceiling, enjoying complimentary drinks, a gourmet snack, live Andean music, and a traditional alpaca fashion show — all while taking in sweeping views of the Urubamba River valley and snow-capped peaks. It’s the perfect way to celebrate completing the trek.
This 4-day Inca Trail trek is perfect for adventurous travelers who want more than just a visit to Machu Picchu. By hiking the classic route, you earn the privilege of entering through the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) at dawn — a moment that no bus or train can replicate.
📍 Key stops along the Inca Trail: Dead Woman’s Pass (4,215m), Runkurakay Pass, Sayaqmarka, Phuyupatamarka, Intipata, Wiñay Wayna, Sun Gate, and Machu Picchu.
Each day of the Inca Trail brings new landscapes and challenges. Day 1 eases you into the trek with gentle terrain along the Urubamba River Valley. Day 2 is the most demanding — you’ll summit Dead Woman’s Pass at 4,215 meters, the highest point on the trail. Days 3 and 4 reward your effort with jaw-dropping descents through cloud forests, ancient Inca tunnels, and finally the unforgettable sunrise arrival at Machu Picchu. After your guided tour of the citadel, you’ll board the Vistadome train for a panoramic ride back through the Sacred Valley.
Your trek includes professional bilingual guides, comfortable camping equipment, and gourmet meals prepared by our experienced trail chefs. With a maximum group size of 8, you’ll enjoy a personalized experience far from the crowds. As a local tour operator, we provide you with a duffel bag during your briefing and include the services of an additional porter to carry up to 7 kg (15 lbs) of your gear. This allowance covers your sleeping bag, mattress, and any extra clothing you may need. Peruvian regulations ensure that no duffel bag exceeds 7 kg to safeguard the health of our porters and any horses used during the trek. All bags will be weighed prior to acceptance. If your gear exceeds this limit, you will need to carry the additional weight in your day pack. From the 7 kg allowance, allocate 2 kg for your sleeping bag and 1 kg for your sleeping pad, leaving you with approximately 4 kg for your personal belongings.
We highly recommend a small backpack 30 to 40L for hiking in the day. A big backpack will not be allowed into Machu Picchu. The remainder of your belongings will be in your duffel bag at camp.
