The Luxury Inca Trail 2 Days 1 Night combines the authentic Inca Trail experience with 5-star comfort. Trek the ancient pathway from KM 104 through cloud forest to Wiñay Wayna and the iconic Sun Gate, then relax at a luxury hotel in Aguas Calientes with gourmet dining and Vistadome train service.

Why Choose the Luxury Short Inca Trail?

This is the perfect option for travelers who want the authentic Inca Trail experience — hiking the original stone pathway through the Sun Gate to Machu Picchu — paired with the finest comfort available. Instead of camping, you stay at a 5-star hotel like Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel. Instead of a standard train, you travel both ways on the panoramic Vistadome. Every meal is a gourmet experience, from your packed trail lunch to wine-paired dinners at the hotel restaurant.

Ideal for couples, honeymooners, families, or any traveler who wants to walk the Inca Trail without roughing it.

What to Expect

Day 1 begins with a Vistadome train ride to KM 104, where you start hiking the original Inca Trail through subtropical cloud forest. The highlight is the magnificent ruins of Wiñay Wayna, followed by the iconic arrival at Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate. Your evening is spent at a 5-star hotel with gourmet dinner and full amenities.

Day 2 brings an early morning return to Machu Picchu for a comprehensive private guided tour, followed by gourmet lunch at a top-rated restaurant and a scenic Vistadome train return to Cusco.

Highlights

Before Your Trip

This luxury experience is designed for comfort from start to finish. While the Short Inca Trail from KM 104 involves a moderately challenging day hike with some steep sections, no extreme fitness is required. A reasonable level of fitness and some experience with hiking at altitude will ensure you enjoy every moment.

Acclimatization

We strongly recommend arriving in Cusco (3,400m / 11,150ft) at least 2 days before your departure. The Inca Trail reaches approximately 2,700m, which is lower than Cusco, but proper acclimatization helps you enjoy the trek more. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol for the first day, and drink coca tea.

What to Bring

Since you’ll be staying at a 5-star hotel, packing is simple. Bring a small daypack for the trek with water, sunscreen, a rain jacket, and camera. The hotel provides all amenities including toiletries, robes, and towels. Wear comfortable hiking shoes for Day 1 and bring a change of clothes for the evening.

Health Considerations

Consult your doctor before traveling to high altitude. Our team carries supplemental oxygen and a first-aid kit on the trail. If you have dietary restrictions or allergies, inform us in advance so both our trail chef and the hotel restaurant can accommodate your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes this different from the standard Short Inca Trail?
The route is identical — you trek from KM 104 through Wiñay Wayna and the Sun Gate to Machu Picchu. The luxury difference is in every other detail: you travel by Vistadome panoramic train, stay at a 5-star hotel (Inkaterra or equivalent), enjoy gourmet dining with wine pairings, and have a private guide throughout. It’s the same adventure with a dramatically elevated level of comfort.
Which hotel will I stay at?
We book you at Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel or an equivalent 5-star property in Aguas Calientes. Inkaterra features beautiful gardens with 300+ orchid species, a spa, and an acclaimed restaurant. The exact hotel is confirmed upon booking based on availability.
How difficult is the Short Inca Trail hike?
The trek from KM 104 is moderately challenging with a consistent uphill gradient for approximately 3-4 hours to Wiñay Wayna, followed by a relatively flat 1-hour walk to the Sun Gate. Total hiking distance is about 12 km. Good general fitness is recommended, but no extreme conditioning is required.
What meals are included?
All meals are included: a gourmet packed lunch on the trail, multi-course dinner with wine pairings at your 5-star hotel restaurant, full gourmet breakfast at the hotel, and a gourmet lunch at a top-rated restaurant in Aguas Calientes after Machu Picchu.
What is the Vistadome train?
The Vistadome is Peru Rail’s premium scenic train with floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows, leather seats, complimentary onboard drinks, live Andean music performances, and a traditional fashion show. It’s included in both directions for this luxury experience.
How far in advance should I book?
Inca Trail permits are limited and sell out months in advance. We recommend booking 3-6 months ahead for peak season (May-September). The Short Inca Trail KM 104 permits are separate from the classic 4-day permits and can sometimes be available on shorter notice.
Can I add Huayna Picchu?
Yes. We can add Huayna Picchu ($75) or Machu Picchu Mountain ($75) to your Day 2 itinerary, subject to permit availability. These must be booked in advance.
What is the altitude?
The trek starts at KM 104 (2,150m) and climbs to approximately 2,700m at the Sun Gate. Machu Picchu sits at 2,430m and Aguas Calientes at 2,040m. This is lower than Cusco (3,400m), so altitude is generally not an issue if you’ve acclimatized in Cusco first.
Is this trek suitable for families?
Yes, this is an excellent option for families with older children (12+) and travelers who want the Inca Trail experience without the 4-day camping commitment. The combination of moderate hiking, luxury hotel, and gourmet dining makes it ideal for a wide range of travelers.
What should I pack?
Pack light — you only need a small daypack for the trek with water, sunscreen, rain jacket, and camera. The 5-star hotel provides all amenities including toiletries, robes, and towels. Bring comfortable hiking shoes for Day 1 and a change of clothes for the evening.
